Importance of flowers in Astrology

We all know quite a bit about Astrology, its importance but what is its correlation with flowers? As you know, Astrology is the branch of study that deals with future predictions, luck and fate. It helps in discovering the innate power, to create each day and design your destiny by merging ancient wisdom with practical living. In different cultures there are different subjects that are linked with astrology. Many cultures do it with stars, some work with the planets and some with stones. In India, it’s the stars and planets that play the key role in Astrology. Few people realize that the science of Indian astronomy was so much advanced thousands of years ago, that our rishi’s could see the planets through their consciousness. Moon had also been given great importance in our predictions. We cannot deny that moons gravitational force, which moves billions of gallons of water in the oceans producing high and low tides, could have some effect on the human systems that are filled with water. Our rishis knew that, the cosmos, of which man is but a tiny part has a say in his life.

It’s also very interesting to know that the flowers play an important role in astrology. The puja system which developed in the Vedic period, also recommends the use of flowers of different colors for appeasing different planets and gods, like,

Sun: As the color of Sun is red, therefore red flowers or saffron-color flowers are used.

Moon: As it is pale white. White flowers like white lotus, jasmine, lily are used.

Mercury: This planet is of green color, therefore besides green color basil leaves (tulsi) flowers like bhringaraj, passion flower and sage are used.

Jupiter: The color of Jupiter is yellow or yellowish orange therefore ashwagandha and other yellow flowers are used.

Venus: The color is pure white which is a combination of all colors of spectrum. Therefore the compatible flowers are rose, saffron, jasmine, lotus, lily, white musali and amalaki.

Rahu: This shadow planet is regarded as smoky or black in color. Lotus is generally used.

Ketu: This shadow planet is generally considered brown in color. Compatible flowers like, bayberry, wild ginger, juniper, bhringaraj, and passion flower are used.

But, one thing you should always remember is that, do not offer wild flowers or flowers with thorns to God, while performing prayers. It is said that one should offer only those flowers to God that smell good and are cultivated on good soil.
